After last Sunday’s setback against Bredhurst, Dover were looking to bounce back with a win against Canterbury. Dover started slowly and were quickly punished by a quick counter attack from Canterbury.  As the half went on Dover settled and grew into the game led by some intelligent play from Carson and Alfie upfront. Regan flashed a freekick just over the bar, and then had an attempt blocked after some good forward play from Alfie. Just before the end of half Canterbury again countered and only a smart save from Dan prevented Dover going in 2-0 down. Half time saw Dover go in with heads down wondering if it was going to be another one of those days. The second half though saw a different performance, buoyed by energetic performances from Jay Regan and George in the middle Dover pressed and harried the Canterbury midfield into numerous mistakes. Midway through the half Dover were rewarded with a goal they deserved as George picked the ball 30yards out and hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner. The goal gave Dover confidence and it turned into a game of attack vs defence. Dover kept pressing and went close on a number of occasions before, with 5mins to play a long clearance from Dan set Charlie free to run in and round the keeper to score his second goal in as many games. Canterbury tried to hit back but strong defending from Markus, Joss, Morgan and Sam meant Dover were able to hang on to a deserved victory. To cap a good performance there was even time for Alfie to get a goal he deserved, following a strong solo run and close range finish. 3pts in the bag, Dover welcome today’s hosts next week in a repeat fixture looking to try and win a 3rd league game in a row
