Today the team were again on their travels this time away to Faversham Town at the Shepard Neame ground.

Following a great run of form lately the lads started a little over confident and the first 15 minutes were frantic. Many players pushed forward and defensively we lost our team shape. Faversham were quick to expose the space left behind our midfield and went a goal up early on. A re-group in midfield and a switch of playing positions and Dover were soon level again when Jose Antonio Solanos equalised from close range.

The goal gave Dover more composure on the ball and they began playing the positive possession football we’ve got accustomed to over the last few weeks.

Dover soon took the lead following some good build up play with Wade Hughes driving the ball home after latching onto a cross drilled in from Qimmarie Thompson. The game remained close and Faversham soon equalised and the teams entered half time 2-2.

Second half and a change in personnel and formation reaped rewards.

Wade Hughes and Jamie Kennedy both pushed up front offered a real attacking threat and soon Dover took the lead once again following a corner which the keeper initially saved only into the path of Hughes who slotted home.

There was a turning point in the game 10 minutes into the second half. Faversham were awarded a dubious penalty which offered the chance to equalise had it not been for Dover’s keeper Karolis Piragis who reacted superbly and with agility never seen before, dived fast and low to his left pulling off a fantastic save.

This save definitely changed the game and Dover took the opportunity and momentum forward and proceeded to attack at will. Qimmarie Thompson added a forth with a turn of pace and out running 2 defenders before hitting the back of the net. Goal of the game though was the fifth. A total of 11 passes from keeper to striker, Dover passed their way through the opposition before Jamie Kennedy set the ball back to the edge of the area where Wade Hughes connected first time with a sumptuous curled ball into the top right corner to complete his hat-trick and secure another great result.
