Dover Athletic under 14s faced their toughest challenge of the season as they overcame a determined and physical Ashford side. It didn’t take long.for.the breakthrough as Rory Sutcliffe’s ball in behind the Ashford defence found the run of Tyler Watson who finished clinically into the top corner.

Harley Scrivener provided the next with an incisive ball from midfield into Watson. His turn was fantastic, but his finish even better as he found the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Dover then lost their way for a while. A mix up in midfield allowed Ashford to break, and they scored a good goal into the bottom corner past ‘keeper Freddie Marsh who was untroubled up until that point.

Ashford kept the pressure on and were rewarded with an equaliser just minutes before half time.

Ashford continued to press forward into the second half, and made determined progress without creating any real goalscoring chances.

Dover slowly fought their way back into the game. The breakthrough came when Watson played the ball to Sutcliffe, and his beautifully weighted return pass enabled Tyler to go around the Ashford ‘keeper to complete his second hatrick of the season in just 3 games.

Watson completed the scoring after dogged work in the midfield from Ned Odlin finally allowed him to find the space to put Watson in behind for his fourth with a left foot finish from an acute angle.

The game was effectively over as a contest, and Dover continued to apply pressure without adding to their tally.

It was a determined performance from the Dover side with a standout performance from Harry Sharman in the Dover defence.
