Today we travelled away to face Sittingbourne FC in what can only be best described as torrential weather with strong winds and hail from the outset leading to less than ideal conditions for a decent game of football. Having said that, both sets of players battled through and never gave up. Sittingbourne opened the scoring 10 minutes in with a fantastic free kick,
this despite Dover having much of the possession. Dover never dropped their heads and equalised shortly after when Ewan Alexander beat his defender and with the keeper marauding out of goal he shot hitting the post only for Nathan Mobio to latch onto the rebound and fire into the open goal. Dover continued to create chances with George Adams striking the cross bar
and Jamie Kennedy shooting just inches wide. It was Ben Snape who finally grabbed Dover’s second. The smallest player on
the pitch managing to out smart his marker and finding space to header home from a corner. Great movement from Snape to create the space. With half time approaching Dover continued to dominate and when Euan Bunn found himself in space in the 18 yard box he added a third with a well place shot which the keeper struggled to keep out. 1-3 to Dover at the break.
Second half, the weather worsened and both sides found it difficult to play any meaningful football. Sittingbourne made a number of player changes and did begin to threaten Dover’s goal more and more but Dover’s defence and Denis Mehalla held firm
between the sticks keeping the home side at bay. Then with 10 minutes to play and at a time when Sittingbourne were taking
control, Dover finished off the game when Ewan Alexander crossed into the box for George Adams to set the ball back for Alfie Wilkins who struck first time into the roof of the goal from 20 yards. A moment of good passing
rewarded with a good strike.
The game ended 1-4 to Dover who remain top of the league with 5 wins from 6 games.
