Our u13’s march on into the last 8 of the Kent Youth League cup after a fantastic display against London side Long Lane FC. A physical game from the very first whistle with both teams creating chances. Wade Hughes opened the scoring for Dover after 15 minutes after Alfie Wilkins through ball put him in on goal. His first effort was saved but the keeper couldn’t recover quick enough to block the rebound. Dover scored a second 10 mins later when Luca Ambriz came running into the box from the wing and with his first touch wrong footing the defender he slotted home with great composure. Athletic could so easily have snatched a third but Karolis Piragis hit the cross bar and Jamie Kennedy and Ewan Alexander both forced good saves from the keeper.

Second half and Long Lane switched to 3-4-3 formation and replied almost immediately with a headed goal. This spurred on the visitors who pushed and pushed for an equaliser creating a nervy finish, but Dover changed personnel and switched to a more defensive shape keeping the visitors at bay. The defence held firm and Dover goal keeper Denis Mehalla pulled off some great saves towards the end to retain Dover’s lead.

A dogged performance from the Dover lads but they fought hard and dealt with everything the visitors threw at them. This was the team’s fifth straight win in succession. A fantastic effort and into the quarter finals
