After 6 weeks without a match finally football returned for Dover U15’s this weekend as they looked to maintain their good recent form, In warm and sunny conditions Dover started brightly and were 1-0 after less than 5 minutes. After a flurry of corners the ball was bundled into his own net from the Hythe center back to give Dover a deserved lead. The goal should of been the start of floodgates opening but the lack the games appeared to have left some of the players a little rusty as they missed a host of chances in a one sided first half. The game was there for Dover but they were wary that at 1-0 the game could easily hinge. on one goal. The second half started as the first finished with Dover continuing to press and missing chances. After Liam McVie saw his shot cannon back off the stanchion of the goal some were wondering if it was going to one of those days. Luckily the players continued to press and Liam McVie did get himself on the score-sheet moments later after a neat solo run he found himself free in the box and dinked the ball over the onrushing GK.

With the game seemingly finished Dover gifted Hythe a lifeline when a hopeful punt into the box was inadvertently turned into his own net by the Dover GK to reduce the score to 2-1. The goal didn’t dent Dover’s pursuit for the win and the 2 goal cushion was re-established when Toby Swinn rose in the box to head his first goal of the season. There was still time for Dover to miss another couple of guilt edge chances but after such a long break the team was happy to get another win. With 6 wins and a draw with 10 men in their last 8 games, Dover will be hoping their recent form will continue for the final 5 matches.
