The last match between the these two sides ended in a 2-2 draw at Tilmanstone Ground, Home to Dover Athletic. Today’s match was sure to bring out some great football with two passing sides pitted against each other ready for round two of this season. The first half was dominated by a very positive Athletic team, who have shown massive growth from last season. The opening ten minutes saw Dover create four immediate goal scoring opportunities. Within 5 minutes a great dead ball cross into the box from Left back Owen Stewart found League top goal scorer Jack Gealer whose powerful header opened the scoring. Three minutes later another Owen Stewart dead ball delivery into the Kennington box found Athletic’s Captain Alfy Galvin who slotted home to make the score 0-2 on eight minutes. What followed was wave after wave of dangerous Dover Attacks, a cross from right winger Findley Fletcher was drilled into the box with Jack Gealer no more than an inch away from hitting the back of the net, followed by a great entry into the box from wide by Striker Liam Middleton who sailed past two defenders before hitting a powerful shot against the upright. Dover were in complete control until 38 minutes when Kennington to their credit, begun pushing forwards searching for a consolation. Kennington’s hard work paid off on 39 minutes with a well taken goal. On 44 minutes another powerful delivery into the box was met once again by Athletic’s prolific goal scorer Jack Gealer. Half time score 1-3.

Second half Kennington came out with fight, and begun passing the ball around the pitch nicely, the Dover midfield were now not winning the first and second balls as easily as they had been. On 55 minutes Kennington once again surged forwards and scored their second from the edge of the 18 yard box after a great spell of possession, Dover should really have cleared their lines before the final pass was made, however, Kennington seized upon this error and made it count. 2-3. The next 20 minute period saw Kennington give it all they had, pushing forwards as often as possible, Kennington played some fantastic football, which forced the Dover management team into making some changes. During this period the game was very even with the midfield battle intensifying.
However, Dover being one of the fittest teams in the league it was only going to be a matter of time before further goals were scored. On 80 minutes Liam Middleton forced his way into the box striking an unstoppable shot into the top left hand corner making it 2-4 and a few moments later it was Middleton once again who reacted quickest in the penalty area to fire another great finish home.
