Sunday saw Dover Athletic travel to Faversham Town looking to build on lasts weeks hard fought win against Hollands & Blair. In unseasonably high temperatures the pace of the game started slowly with both teams playing cautiously for the opening 15 minutes. Dover struggled to find any fluidity in their build up and began to give away lots of needless free kicks and possession. If not for the stand in goal keeper Raslin Thai, Dover may have been behind. on the counter though Dover did look dangerous and went ahead after 20 minutes. Liam McVeigh found space in the midfield and sent the ball through to George Nikaj to lob the goal keeper from distance. The goal though didn’t really change the flow of the play and poor passing made the rest of the first half one to forget from both sides. In the second more space opened up for Dover as Faversham pressed for an equaliser. First George Nikaj went close after good work from Liam McVeigh drew the GK out of the goal but George was unable to lob the back pedalling defenders. Then it was McVeigh’s turn to go close after a great delivery from Jensen Underwood found him unmarked but he was unable to steer the ball into the net. Nikaj then missed another opportunity shooting straight at the GK when through one vs one. Dover’s management team were fearful that the wastefulness would come back to hurt Dover in the second half but some resolute defending from Arthur Clarke and Owen Armstrong ensured Dover ground out another 3 points.
