Under 13 League Cup

Dover u13 march through into round 3 of the cup after a close and hard thought match against North Kent side Corinthian FC. It was an early start for the whites travelling to north Kent and with a few key players missing it was always going to be a testing game. Not knowing the opposition we opted for the conservative approach playing a defensive 4-2-3-1 formation.

The first half was very evenly matched with some good football played from both teams.
Dover broke the deadlock with Ben Snape scoring from a rebound. Snape’s work rate was exemplary first half and the goal was no more than he deserved tirelessly running up and down the wing.
Corinthian equalised soon after from a well taken free kick and both teams entered half time with one goal apiece.

Second half and despite Dover striking the post and cross bar on 4 separate occasions early on and Corinthian’s snatched the lead through another set piece. Dover responded immediately with a change in formation and personnel. Switching to 2 up front and pressing a lot higher up the pitch, we began to dominate. Dover soon equalised through Luca Ambriz who turned and fooled 3 surrounding defenders on the edge of the area before calmly slotting home. Dover continued to press and some great link up play up front saw Alfie Wilkins play a through ball into the path of Wade Hughes who ran half the pitch to smash a ball across the face of the goal. The keeper initially saved but the ball went loose. Dover then made 5 passes in the 18 yard box before releasing team captain Jamie Kennedy who fired home the winner. Queue the celebrations and no more than the lads deserved. Corinthian’s never gave up and with seconds to go threw every player including their goal keeper in the box for a corner but Dover keeper Denis Mehalla punched away and the final whistle went.

A great result following a tireless performance and having dominated possession, it was no more than the away team deserved.

Work rate was fantastic today lads. Well done.
